Program Description:
The University of Eastern Finland, UEF, is a multidisciplinary research university with an extensive network of foreign partners. It was founded in 2010 as the result of the merger of two research universities, the University of Joensuu and the University of Kuopio, which both dated back to the late 1960s. With its 15,000 students and a staff of 2,574, the UEF is one of the largest universities in Finland. The university has main campuses in the cities of Joensuu and Kuopio, and a smaller campus in Savonlinna. Annually, the UEF hosts about 1,400 international students. The UEF offers its students an international and lively study environment and state-of-the-art facilities.

The UEF has four faculties: the Philosophical Faculty, the Faculty of Science and Forestry, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies. The university offers instruction in more than 100 major subjects. The fields of education offered by UEF are the following: Business Studies, Dentistry, Educational Sciences, Forest Sciences, Health Sciences, Health Biosciences, Humanities, Law, Medicine, Natural Sciences, Pharmacy, Psychology, Social Sciences, and Theology.

The internationally recognised research areas of the university include the following: Aerosols, climate change and human health; Cardiovascular and metabolic diseases; Forests, global change and bioeconomy; Neurosciences; and Borders, mobilities and cultural encounters. Other strong research areas include Photonics - theory, materials, and applications; Sustainable governance of natural resources; Learning in interactive environments; Translational cancer research; and Musculoskeletal disorders.

As an official Partner University of the United Nations Environment Programme, UNEP, the UEF is committed to promoting sustainable development in all the academic fields that it represents.

In order to make it possible for international students with little or no knowledge of Finnish to come and study in Finland, the UEF offers a great variety of international study programmes – both non-degree and degree programmes - taught entirely in English. There are Bachelor and Master's level programmes offered as well as Doctoral programmes. Please take a look at our broad variety of educational programmes at http://www.uef.fi/en/studies/study-programmes-in-english.
